Actress Bijou Phillips Files for Divorce from Actor Danny Masterson After His Rape Conviction

Bijou Phillips, the wife of actor Danny Masterson, has filed for divorce after he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for rape. The couple has been married for 11 years and has a daughter together.

Phillips cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce and listed the date of their separation as “TBD.” She requested spousal support as well as restoration of her name to Bijou Phillips and full legal and physical custody of their daughter, with Masterson receiving child visitation.

Phillips stood by Masterson throughout his two trials, but she has not commented publicly on the divorce filing.

Masterson was convicted of two counts of rape in May 2023 and sentenced in September 2023. He maintains his innocence and plans to appeal his conviction.

Bijou Phillips Expresses Support for Danny Masterson in Character Reference Letter

In a character reference letter penned just last month, actress and singer Bijou Phillips praised her husband, Danny Masterson, as an “extraordinary husband” amid their 19-year journey together. This heartfelt letter was written in support of Masterson before his recent sentencing.

Phillips emphasized Masterson’s role as an outstanding father, expressing the family’s profound sadness over his absence. She conveyed their collective need for him, highlighting the challenges they’ve faced in his absence. While acknowledging the gravity of the charges against him, Phillips affirmed that the man she married had consistently been an exceptional partner and devoted father.

Addressed to Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo and dated August 14, this letter was part of a series of correspondences—now made public by The Hollywood Reporter—from Masterson’s loved ones, all appealing for leniency in his sentencing.
