  1. Tl;dr

While NA leads the world in P2P transactions in the past 180 days with $545 million in transactions, Africa is the second continent on the list with $409 million. Most interesting is the NA declined 19% vs the previous period while Northern and Southern Africa increased 15% and 30%, respectively.

Also of note, Tanzania appears to be following El Salvador’s lead with regards to accepting Bitcoin as legal tender with their president asking their central bank to look into accepting digital currencies.

  2. tldr; The African continent is the one that has recorded the biggest growth in Bitcoin exchanges over the last 180 days. Most countries in sub-Saharan Africa register about 15% increase, and up to 30% for countries in North Africa. North America recorded a decline of around 19% in trade.

  3. It doesn’t surprise me at all that Africa as a whole is looking towards crypto, given the large numbers who are effectively unbanked and the volatility of some of the country’s currencies.

I am, however, surprised BTC is the crypto of choice – given the fees.
