Average Fee != Required Fee

Do not confuse *average* fee with *required* fee. Anybody can overpay his bitcoin transactions and thereby raise the average. The fees required to get your transactions confirmed still is “just” about $11.

  1. Yes, it is possible to send 1 BTC and pay a $1000 fee for that. Everybody can pay as much as he likes. On average the bitcoin transaction fee is now $59 because of that, but it is still possible to just pay $11 in order to get your transaction confirmed in 10 minutes.
