  1. Of course buying shares of a bitcoin futures ETF is worse than buying bitcoin spot. That’s not the point. If you can buy bitcoin spot, then buy it instead of the ETF. The ETF is for those players who cannot, **due to regulatory reasons (either from the government or their companies)**, buy bitcoin spot. Any vehicle that allows more investors to get exposure to bitcoin is beneficial for bitcoin as it helps with price discovery. May it work, at times, in the reverse direction allowing for some players to short bitcoin? Yes. However, most players who are willing to short bitcoin at the institutional level (e.g. hedge funds) already can do so (don’t even need to mention about retail investors – any idiot can short bitcoin). So BTC-exposure investment vehicles end up opening the gates mostly for would-be longs than would-be shorts. I think it is quite obvious for most here, and for most that have some understanding of bitcoin that, if everyone with investment decision power and funds could buy bitcoin, the price would be substantially higher. An ETF like that just puts us one step closer to this.

  2. There is very little point to a BTC etf. ETF’s were created to reduce risk by buying a basket of stocks, what is the point of having an ETF with one investment. The only place it makes sense is maybe buying in a RRSP or something like that where actual bitcoins cant be bought.
