Court Rules Against Tasha K in Cardi B Defamation Case

In a recent legal development, media personality Tasha K faces a setback in her ongoing defamation case against Cardi B. A judge has rejected Tasha’s attempt to discharge the $4 million settlement debt through bankruptcy. While this ruling marks a significant turn, the dispute is far from over. Questions remain regarding Tasha’s liability for the $500,000 punitive damages against her company, Kebe Studios. A pretrial conference is scheduled for January 9 in Florida.

This legal saga stems from a lawsuit filed by Cardi B in 2019, following a series of false accusations made by Tasha in online videos. The judge ruled in favor of Cardi, holding Tasha liable for defamation, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Despite various attempts to avoid payment, Tasha’s efforts have been unsuccessful.

Tasha’s bankruptcy filing in June included a detailed list of her assets, revealing her financial situation. Despite offering a settlement plan of 20 quarterly payments of $220,000 in August, Cardi B declined the offer.

Tasha subsequently filed an appeal, claiming an error in the trial process. However, the appeal was dismissed due to a lack of evidence to support her case. The court stated, “Defendant asks for a new trial, saying that there was insufficient evidence for the jury verdict against her… Because Kebe’s brief falls well short of what we require, she has abandoned this argument.”

Following the unsuccessful appeal, Tasha took to Instagram to issue a public apology to Cardi B, acknowledging the allegations made against the rapper.

As the legal battle continues, this case highlights the complexities and consequences of online content and the responsibility of creators in the digital landscape.
