Crypto Scams Hit Central Florida: How an Investigator is Fighting Back

Involvement in cryptocurrency is on the rise, but so are scams, with over 100 reported cases in Brevard County alone. Realtor Isabel Castro fell victim after trusting a friend’s Instagram post. The scam prompted her to buy Bitcoin and transfer it, only to realize she couldn’t retrieve the funds. Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Agent Justin Wood, a crypto-fraud investigator, has seen cases like Castro’s. He traced the transactions and successfully recovered her $9,000, part of the $4.5 million lost in crypto fraud in the area. Wood, with Secret Service training, is a leading force against these scams. He advises caution and warns against promises of quick, high returns. Castro urges others to verify before falling prey to such scams.
