  1. Im from El Salvador look there’s no identity theft here what happens since forever every fuckin government agency even corporation want a copy of your ID anyone who has a copy of that could register your account but here’s the catch to create a account you need a cellphone number to get a cellphone you need a sim and that sim is linked to your ID so if someone register for you the government just require the phone company to hand over the Records of the people who did it they can even know where they live to pick em up. Sure the app was rushed had bugs in the beginning but this is just FUD people are using BTC and the wallet.

  2. So people got something for free from the government and people abuse it. Let s put aside that people from El Salvador say this is FUD…

The whole identity theft thing has nothing to do with Bitcoin itself. It s all about the identification that the government used to spread the money. The correct title should be “scammers abuse government handout”. And guess what, that s happening everywhere with fiat and nobody cares ever. But if you get Bitcoin instead of fiat it is the Bitcoin to be blamed? Have you ever heard of abuse of the social security system in any country (that has one) that was blamed on the Dollar, Euro or whatever currency there is? No? Exactly.

  3. tldr; El Salvadorians are having their identities stolen by scammers using the Chivo wallet, the official wallet of the El Salvador government. The wallet gives out a $30 sign-up bonus to residents 14 and above to encourage the adoption of crypto. Scammers used citizens’ personal information to activate their wallets, get the $30 bonus, and transfer it out to their wallets.
