Fashion designer Michael Costello is facing backlash after an Asian model accused him of photoshopping and whitewashing her face in pictures posted online.
Shereen Wu, a 21-year-old Los Angeles-based model, took to social media to share her experience with Costello. She claims that he photoshopped her face in a runway photo and replaced it with that of a white woman.
Wu said that she confronted Costello about the overly edited photos and he reportedly blamed the photographer. However, the photographer denied any involvement in the edits.
With no clear answers from Costello or the photographer, Wu decided to share her story on TikTok. She also called out past incidents where Costello has been accused of racist behavior.
After being publicly accused by Wu, Costello deleted the edited photo of her and reportedly began posting photos of AI art and AI models on his Instagram Story. Wu interpreted this as Costello mocking her and implying that she had no reason to be upset.
Costello has not yet publicly addressed the accusations.
