Move over, Grey Gardens! Jeff Daniels is bringing the larger-than-life Southern charm (and zero Trumpy vibes) to Netflix’s new series “A Man in Full.” The show, which premiered in LA this week, follows Daniels as a flamboyant Atlanta real estate mogul named Charlie Croker who’s facing a financial meltdown.
Daniels Gets His Dukes Up (and Twang On!)
Daniels clearly relished playing the flamboyant Croker. He says, “Charlie’s a big character, so I went in with the thickest Southern accent I could muster. It was a blast!”
Croker: The Anti-Trump Billionaire?
While some might see similarities between Croker and a certain orange-hued former president, Daniels insists that wasn’t the inspiration. “Honestly, the last thing I need is to think about Trump,” he quipped. He clarifies, “The character is based on real Atlanta businessmen from the 90s, not some reality TV star.”
Shania Twain Serenades Daniels (and Seals the Deal)
One of the show’s highlights? Shania Twain belting out a tune for Croker! Daniels admits he knew he’d nailed the role the moment he read that scene in the script. “I emailed David E. Kelley (the show’s creator) and said, ‘Having Shania Twain sing to Charlie Croker at his 60th birthday? That’s him!'”
High Praise for Shania and Regina King
Daniels is full of compliments for his co-stars. He calls Shania a “total pro” and raves about her kindness off-screen. He also credits director Regina King (who won an Oscar for her performance in “If Beale Street Could Talk”) for creating a supportive environment. “Having an Oscar winner behind the camera is pretty reassuring,” Daniels says. “Regina gets it. She understands actors and what we’re trying to achieve.”
A Man in Full of Talent
“A Man in Full” sounds like it’s packed with juicy drama, a captivating performance from Daniels, and maybe even a little Shania Twain magic. We can’t wait to see it!
