Jenna Bush Hager is accusing Today producers of “shaming” her and her twin sister, Barbara Bush, over an underage drinking incident that occurred over 20 years ago.
During a recent episode of the morning talk show, the sisters were playing a game called “First Loves” when they were asked about the first cocktail they ever loved. Jenna’s response was to reprimand producers.
“I think they’re trying to shame us,” she said. “With our underage drinking, minor possession of alcohol.”
Barbara agreed, saying that the question was “rude” and came from their “own team.”
In need of a refresher? Back in 2001, Jenna and Barbara were cited with Class C misdemeanors for underage drinking after they tried to use someone else’s driver’s license to order a drink at a restaurant in Texas.
While Jenna and Barbara agree that the question was a subtle dig from producers, they quickly got over it and answered the question. Jenna said that her first cocktail was probably a wine cooler, while Barbara said it was a Strawberry Hill.
It’s unclear why producers would choose to ask the twins about their underage drinking incident, but it’s certainly possible that they were trying to get a rise out of them. After all, the Bush sisters are known for their outspokenness and their willingness to talk about their personal lives.
Whether or not producers were trying to shame Jenna and Barbara, one thing is clear: the twins are not going to let anyone make them feel bad about their past.
