Iconic actress Sophia Loren is in recovery mode after a recent mishap at her Geneva residence where she suffered fractures to her hip and thigh bones. Despite the unfortunate incident, Loren’s manager Carlo Giuisti reassures that she is progressing well, though extensive rehabilitation will be required over the next few months.
Following her fall, Loren promptly received medical attention and underwent a successful surgical procedure, as confirmed by her agent Andrea Giusti. Both of Loren’s sons, Carlo Ponti Jr. and Edoardo Ponti, are offering their support in Switzerland during her recuperation.
Just days before the incident, the celebrated star marked her 89th birthday on September 20, originally planning to attend an event at her namesake restaurant. Unfortunately, the accident led to its cancellation.
As one of the last living legends from the golden age of Hollywood, Loren’s illustrious career began in Italian cinema, with notable films like “The Gold of Naples” (1954) and “La Bella Mugnaia” (1955). Her enduring partnership with actor Marcello Mastroianni began with these movies. Subsequently, Hollywood beckoned, leading her to sign a significant five-picture deal with Paramount Pictures in 1958.
However, it was the Italian production “Two Women” (1960), directed by Vittorio De Sica, that earned Loren a historic Best Actress Oscar, marking the first major Academy Award for a non-English language performance.
While Loren maintained a regular presence in films during the ’60s and ’70s, her screen appearances became sporadic since the ’80s. Nevertheless, in 2020, she delivered a critically-acclaimed performance in the Netflix movie “The Life Ahead.”
