Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon’s love story is one of unexpected connections and enduring strength. Despite being married for over two decades, they discovered a surprising familial link on the PBS show “Finding Your Roots.” While Kyra revealed their ninth cousins once removed status, she wasn’t entirely surprised.
“I mean, most white people are related, ultimately,” she stated, hinting at the show’s possible motivation for featuring them together.
Their romance, however, didn’t begin with sparks flying. When they first met in the 70s and again in 1987 on the set of “Lemon Sky,” Kyra wasn’t impressed by Kevin’s cocky demeanor.
“He definitely wasn’t my type,” she admitted, even recalling her initial judgment of his physical appearance.
But destiny had its course. They married the following year and soon welcomed their first child, Travis. Their daughter Sosie followed, eventually finding success as an actress in “13 Reasons Why.”
Reflecting on their early days, Kyra acknowledges the unexpected nature of their relationship. “If someone had told me that at 22 I was going to meet the man I was going to marry and at 23 I would marry him and have a child, I would have told them they were out of their mind,” she confessed.
Throughout their marriage, Kyra and Kevin have openly expressed their love for each other, both publicly and privately. Their wedding anniversary remains a significant occasion for Kevin, who acknowledges the love and family he gained during a challenging period in his life.
“The time I was hitting what I considered to be bottom was also the time I met my wife, our kids were born, good things were happening. And I was able to keep supporting myself; that always gave me strength,” he expressed.
Their love hasn’t been without its trials. They faced the financial devastation of losing their life savings in the Bernie Madoff scheme but managed to overcome this and other hardships by focusing on the truly important things.
“We got through it together,” Kevin shared, highlighting the importance of “the things we had as opposed to whatever we lost. Those are the biggest cliches: children, health, love, a nice home.”
Kyra and Kevin’s story is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the unexpected twists and turns of life. Despite their distant familial connection, they have built a strong and enduring relationship, proving that love can truly find a way.
