Remember Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ whirlwind romance and lavish Italian wedding? It may have happened over a decade ago, but thanks to Brooke Shields, new details are emerging! ( )
Shields, who recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly to promote her new movie “Mother of the Bride,” revealed she scored an invite to the high-profile 2006 nuptials. Apparently, the invite came after Tom had a public change of heart about Shields, who bravely opened up about using antidepressants for postpartum depression. Remember that whole Scientology drama?
From Feud to Friendship
“Of course, I was gonna say yes!” Shields told EW about the invite. She even joked, “I was like, ‘Yes. I will — as long as I’m not the something old!'” Well, it turns out, Katie had a hilarious response to that.
The “Something Old” Twist
Shields revealed Katie actually asked her to BE the “something old” for the wedding tradition! “She goes, ‘Oh, will you?’ And I said, ‘What? Bring myself as the something old?'” Can you imagine? Brooke laughs, “I had to, like, hunt antique places to find the perfect gift to give her.”
The Perfect Present Revealed
And what DID Brooke find? Shields said it sounded like a beautiful gift! “It was a little compact that you put a ring…, ” she shared. ”So you’re supposed to be able to look at their reflection in it and have it around their finger.”
A Heartfelt Apology
While the exact timeline of the invite isn’t clear, Shields did mention in a 2006 interview that Tom personally apologized for his past comments about her antidepressants. “He came over to my house, and he gave me a heartfelt apology,” Shields said on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”
A Star-Studded Ceremony
Cruise and Holmes’ wedding was a mega-event at an Italian castle, reportedly costing over $3 million. Celebs like Jennifer Lopez, David and Victoria Beckham, and Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith were all on the guest list. The couple divorced six years later, with many speculating it was to protect their daughter, Suri, from Scientology.
