“PAYING WITH BITCOIN” ONLINE STORE CHECKOUT INSTRUCTIONS – PLEASE CRITIQUE THE INSTRUCTIONS (w/out actually buying anything. Items are available but NOT yet quality assured.) **Note: Don’t let the URL fool you – it’s satire. Items are meant to be conversation starters. Paying with BTC for them=Irony

  1. Please reply to this comment for critiquing the checkout instructions/process. (I’m explaining the process fully here.)

NOTE: None of this applies to the Gift Cards. They have to have their own checkout process – no getting around it.

But for the shorts & mugs:

This is a GoDaddy store (cheap & easy to set up). I enabled the “Offline Payment” option (which would normally be used to accept checks) & used it to offer instructions for paying with BTC.

The first sign that things can be paid for in BTC is a drop-down menu under each item that asks **”Pay with Bitcoin? (Does not affect pricing)”** and gives 2 options:

**1) Yes, I’ll pay directly with BTC. (Use grey checkout buttons)**

**2) No, I’ll use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Credit/Debit Card.**

This drop-down menu is a “Product Add-On” where the options could have had prices, but they do not.

There are a few reasons I put this here, but, moving on…

Please help me out by adding an item to the cart, & then entering fake name/shipping info to get to the next step. (I am NOT asking anyone to actually check out.)

Once you hit **Continue**, you will see the instructions I’m asking for critique on.

    You will see this:

**PAYING WITH BTC? ENTER TRANSACTION ID (TXID) HERE:” with a text box to enter the ID.**

In the text box, you’ll see:

**IMPORTANT: Before sending BTC, please select the “Bitcoin Direct” payment option below & read the instructions. Once payment is completed, enter the TXID in this space.**

And when you select the **Bitcoin Direct** payment option, you’ll see the following instructions:

**INSTRUCTIONS: 1) Convert your Total Amount Due (top right of checkout screen) from USD to BTC using Google’s online conversion tool. 2) Send BTC to the address above (3D8Sb1…). 3) Enter TXID into space provided. 4) Hit “Complete Your Order” button.**

***Please help me out by critiquing these instructions.***

E.g. Should I be asking buyers to use the Google USD-to-BTC conversion tool? Or just let people use whatever exchange/app/wallet they want to do the conversion? I’m trying to make things easy, not add any unnecessary steps or instructions.

(Note: I’m not asking anyone to hit the “Complete Your Order” button, unless you want to see what the emails/invoices look like. They have that last set of instructions repeated on them unnecessarily, but I can’t change that. If you make a dummy order, let me know & I’ll delete it. Yes, you can actually buy these products right now, but I haven’t seen them in real life yet [ordered but not yet received] so quality is not yet assured. I’ll obviously refund you if they’re bad, & will re-design with another supplier.)

Regarding the instructions: I don’t have control over the layout (where instructions are placed), but advice on the wording would be greatly appreciated.

If the wording seems really concise/compressed, it’s because there are character limits. It took a long time to come up with instructions short enough to fit.

The whole process may seem awkward (does it? Honest opinions please) but if, with some tweaking, I can make this work using GoDaddy, then anyone can. 🙂 Feel free to copy this method if you think it’s a good one!
