Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in the Kremlin on September 26, 2023. The meeting took place at a time when Russia is struggling to make gains in its war against Ukraine.
It is unclear what the two leaders discussed in their meeting. However, some analysts believe that Kadyrov may have been pressuring Putin to escalate the war in Ukraine. Kadyrov is a staunch supporter of the war, and he has been critical of Putin’s cautious approach.
Other analysts believe that the meeting may have been a way for Putin to show Kadyrov that he still has his support. Kadyrov is a powerful figure in Russia, and he has a large following among Chechens. Putin may need Kadyrov’s support in order to maintain his grip on power.
The meeting between Putin and Kadyrov is a reminder of the close ties between Russia and Chechnya. Chechnya is a breakaway republic in the North Caucasus Mountains. It fought two wars against Russia in the 1990s, but it was eventually brought back under Russian control.
Kadyrov is a former Chechen rebel leader who was installed in power by Putin in 2007. He has ruled Chechnya with an iron fist, and he has been accused of human rights abuses.
The war in Ukraine has had a significant impact on Chechnya. Kadyrov has sent thousands of Chechen fighters to Ukraine to fight alongside Russian forces. The Chechen fighters have been accused of brutality and war crimes.
The meeting between Putin and Kadyrov is a sign that the war in Ukraine is far from over. Putin is unlikely to withdraw from Ukraine without a fight, and he is likely to continue to rely on Kadyrov’s support.
Putin holds a working meeting with Kadyrov.

My opinion:
The meeting between Putin and Kadyrov is a worrying sign. It suggests that Putin is not prepared to end the war in Ukraine, and that he is willing to use brutal tactics to achieve his goals.
The war in Ukraine has already caused a great deal of suffering. It is important to do everything we can to end the war as quickly as possible. We should continue to provide military and financial assistance to Ukraine, and we should impose sanctions on Russia.
We should also work to raise awareness of the war in Ukraine and of the atrocities that are being committed by Russian forces. We must not let the world forget about the suffering of the Ukrainian people.
