Renowned rapper Blueface, born Johnathan Porter, has been handed a probation sentence for his involvement in a shooting outside a Las Vegas strip club in October 2022. This incident led to his subsequent arrest in November.
Blueface, known for his distinctive musical style and chart-topping hits, made waves in the hip-hop scene, particularly with his breakout track “Thotiana” in 2018.
The sentencing, which took place on Monday, saw Judge Kathleen Delaney affirm a plea deal reached earlier in the summer, which outlined a probation-only sentence. Under this arrangement, Porter received a suspended sentence of 2-5 years in prison, ensuring he serves probation instead.
Court records indicate that the victim, who was shot in the hand outside the Euphoric Gentlemen’s Club, recognized Porter at the venue and had interacted with him earlier that evening. The altercation reportedly began when the victim made a comment about Porter conversing with some women near a modest vehicle.
Initially facing an attempted murder charge, Porter’s plea deal resulted in reduced charges of battery and discharging a firearm at or into an occupied structure.
Apart from the criminal case, Blueface was also entangled in civil lawsuits related to the shooting. His legal team sought a halt in the civil proceedings until the criminal matter was resolved.
In a separate incident, Porter was charged with robbery after allegedly taking a fan’s phone at the Palms casino. Records show that prosecutors agreed to drop the charge following Porter’s sentencing in the shooting case.
Blueface’s sentence encompasses a probationary period of up to three years, with an underlying sentence of 2-5 years incarceration. Any violation of probation could lead to a substantial prison term.
Kentavious Traylor, the individual grazed by one of the bullets in the shooting, expressed dissatisfaction with the legal process, suggesting that Blueface received preferential treatment due to his celebrity status. Traylor asserted that the incident significantly impacted his life and job prospects, and voiced his disapproval of both Blueface and Jaidyn Alexis, presumably an associate of the rapper.
