Tributes pour in for the beloved Canadian actor Kenneth Mitchell, who passed away at 49 on Saturday, February 24th, after a courageous battle with ALS

“Ken faced a series of awful challenges from ALS… He lived by the principles that each day is a gift and that we never walk alone. His life is a shining example of how full one can be when you live with love, compassion, humor, inclusion, and community.”

Fellow “Star Trek” actor Jonathan Frakes offered a simple yet powerful farewell: “One of the best. RIP.” Actor Skeet Ulrich echoed the sentiment, praising Mitchell’s inspiration and expressing love for him and his family.

Mitchell’s career spanned over two decades, gracing both the big and small screens. He broke into television in 2001 with “Leap Years” and went on to appear in numerous popular shows, including “Grey’s Anatomy,” “CSI: Miami,” “NCIS,” and “Nancy Drew.”

On the film front, Mitchell’s diverse roles included playing Joseph Danvers in the 2019 film “Captain Marvel” alongside Brie Larson. He also starred in movies like “Miracle,” “The Recruit,” and “Home of the Giants.”

But it was his portrayal of various characters in the “Star Trek” universe that truly captured the hearts of fans. From Klingon General Kol and Kol-Sha in “Star Trek: Discovery” to the timekeeper Tenavik in the same series, Mitchell brought depth and charisma to each role. His legacy even extends to “Star Trek: Lower Decks,” where he voiced a black ops officer.

Diagnosed with ALS in 2018, Mitchell didn’t let the disease define him. He continued acting for several years, even incorporating his wheelchair into a character he played on “Star Trek: Discovery” in season 3. His dedication to his craft and his unwavering spirit became an inspiration to many.

Kenneth Mitchell leaves behind a legacy of laughter, resilience, and passion for his craft. He is survived by his wife, Susan May Pratt, their children, Lilah and Kallum, and a large extended family. While his absence will be deeply felt, his spirit and inspiring story will continue to shine bright in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
