  1. There sure are a lot of misguided comments in this thread.

Energy grids have to operate on a surplus, otherwise there will be blackouts if demand exceeds supply. But the unused surplus energy cannot be stored and is thus wasted. Bitcoin miners, who search for the cheapest possible energy and are buyers of last resort, can monetise this. The market for this is ***huge***.

Seems like this is a good time to plug one of my favourite Bitcoin podcasts, [Tales From The Crypt](https://tftc.io/podcasts/). It has a strong tilt towards mining and how Bitcoin feeds into the energy markets. Stay humble and stack sats, freaks.

  2. tldr; Texas Sen. Ted Cruz believes Bitcoin mining could help the state’s energy grid in the event of blackouts or power shortages. Bitcoin mines can shut down instantaneously, freeing up additional grid space for the heating and cooling of homes, hospitals, and other critical infrastructure. Cruz also pointed out the mining industry’s use of renewable energy.

  3. God this sub is disappointing sometimes with its lack of critical thought. Of course Ted is right.

Crypto miner builds a new power plant and mines crypto 24/7. They know exactly how much money they make per kWh.

Now the traditional grid is about to hit a blackout. You have the crypto miner who would be happy to sell you energy at a premium to what they make mining.

BTC miners increasing the total energy produced in the state helps prevent blackouts.

  4. We need to be using our vast Uranium deposits in South Texas to ramp up Nuclear Power, which is the only reliable and cost efficient way forward, when combined with natural gas and clean coal technology.

  5. Not a Ted fan but for all the haters here; Mining is a fantastic way to bootstrap new and/or expanded energy sources. It’s highly flexible with both location and the ability to shut down fast if energy is required elsewhere on the grid.
It can, basically, subsidize development of solar and wind in the northern part of Tx, for example.
    Teddy is absolutely correct.

  6. Bitcoin mining can also break Texas’ crumbling electric grid. Unless Texas allows thier grid to be professionally managed like the Southwest Power Pool does for much of the central U.S., and funds it accordingly, it will continue to crumble.

  7. How is this the bitcoin sub when you can’t even parse positive words from a senator correctly bc he’s a dick? Learn how PoW works, learn about [demand response](https://twitter.com/ShaunEnergy/status/1448460815565131778?t=KIKjgMQQ3GNp9IAqa9KsJw&s=19) and how bitcoin mines spin up and down depending on the price of electricity and how this could stabilize the grid. Just stop spreading misinformation bs about bitcoin, in a fucking bitcoin sub, just bc you don’t like the guy.

  8. I see where he’s coming from, demands drive supply. Short term, mining may have negative impact until infrastructure is upgraded to meet the demand. But once we see more miners move into the state, and there’s money to be made for the electricity company to serve them, there will be upgrades to the grid.

  9. I’m from TX. That doesn’t make any sense.

By adding MORE demand while keeping supply pretty much the same, Ted Cruz thinks that would make the grid MORE reliable when we straight up ran out of electricity earlier this year?!

    Fucking idiot.

No, we’ll just have more blackouts/brownouts, and then people will be pissed at us bitcoiners.

I love bitcoin, but goddamn do I hate Ted Cruz.
