*(For those of you unfamiliar with the ‘Today I Learned’ sub, the idea is that you share an interesting fact that you recently learned, usually prefixed by ‘TIL’ or ‘Today I learned’.)* I’ll kick things off…

**TIL:** Bitcoin is not the first digital currency. Digital currencies preceding bitcoin includes *e-gold*, which was introduced in 1996 and shut down by the US Government in 2008.

  1. TIL kik was a chat app with 300m users that pissed them off in 2019 by saying they were going to abandon the app for crypto, then changed their mind, minted 100 trillion kik coins, and have changed blockchain 4 times. They are spamming this sub and I wanted to understand why. Yep, total shit show

  2. TIL: Bitcoin is not the first cryptocurrency. Digicash was created by David Chaum in 1989 and is also based on cryptographic protocols, but it didn’t get that popular.
