Top 5 most in-demand jobs in the cryptocurrency sector

As the demand for cryptocurrencies and services related to cryptocurrencies and crypto investors increases, so does the number of jobs in the relevant market. We can easily observe that there are several open roles mentioning “bitcoin”, “cryptocurrency” and “blockchain” on the popular job search platforms LinkedIn, Indeed and Monster.

After all, digital assets, such as cryptocurrencies or NFTs, have become very popular over the past year as young investors and celebrities from the entertainment industry or athletes have embraced the decentralized system to grow their wealth outside of the traditional stock market.

A recent survey by the NORC (National Opinion Research Center) at the University of Chicago found that 13% of Americans have bought or traded cryptocurrencies in the past year, compared to 24% who invested in stocks.

So what are the most in-demand jobs in the field of decentralized finance? An answer to this question can be found in a report published by researchers at Monster, a global leader in connecting people and jobs that has been working to transform the recruitment industry for 25 years.

Several platforms and websites were searched to identify which roles had the most new posts with “cryptocurrency” or “blockchain” in their descriptions.

Finally, 5 profiles were selected as the most sought after. Here they are. 

Cryptocurrency-related jobs

  1. Staff accountant

Staff accountants help coordinate invoicing, financial reports, tax returns and other financial activities for companies working with cryptocurrencies. Most open positions require a degree in finance or accounting and certification as a Certified Public Accountant. Since many of these companies are still new and growing rapidly, accountants have a unique opportunity to develop accounting policies and conduct their compliance process following guidelines.

The average salary in the United States is $55,000 per year.

  1. Account executive

The account executive acts as a direct link between the financial services company and the existing client, managing day-to-day business and ensuring client satisfaction. Account executives educate clients on crypto market conditions, use social media and events to develop partnerships and collect data from sales and marketing campaigns to inform new product development.

In the US, account executives earn an average of $65,000 per year.

  1. Senior software engineer

Software engineers play a key role in the cryptocurrency market as they are building and improving the applications that process cryptocurrency transactions. Most recruiters expect software engineers to have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics or a related field, and proficiency in programming and scripting languages.

The average annual salary for this position is $99,000.

  1. Product manager

Product managers design and launch crypto products that develop and expand the market, such as non-fungible tokens, marketplaces, encrypted health records and anti-money laundering tracking systems. For this role, familiarity with the crypto ecosystem and previous experience in product management are essential. A business degree or courses in communications, marketing and economics are also recommended. Again through data collected in the US we observe that the average annual salary for a product manager is $103,000.

  1. Chief artificial intelligence engineer

The chief artificial intelligence engineer is responsible for developing and programming the machine learning algorithms that make up AI, including trading bots and advanced cyber security to protect cryptocurrency exchanges. AI engineers need to be familiar with some programming languages, most commonly Python, robotics and a broad knowledge of disciplines such as probability and statistics.

They also perform technical analysis to help investors make better trading decisions and troubleshoot problems with AI technology used in the cryptocurrency market.

If we compare the average national salary in the US and Italy we see that the American one is more than twice as high as the Italian one: $103,000 per year against €45,000.

Finding a job in an emerging sector requires research and a lot of attention to new developments and announcements.

Several American Fortune 500 companies such as JPMorgan Chase, Amazon, Apple and PayPal have been hiring crypto experts and professionals in recent months.
