Remember Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon facing off in that epic gangster flick, The Departed? Directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese, the film was a powerhouse, but behind the scenes, things weren’t always smooth sailing! Mark Wahlberg, who played the unforgettable Sergeant Dignam, recently spilled the tea on a hilarious clash he had with Scorsese.
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow (Almost!) Back in the day, Wahlberg was supposed to be in The Departed for a short stint. This lined up perfectly with him growing his hair long for another movie, Invincible. But then, Hollywood scheduling happened!
Filming Feud: The Departed shoot dragged on, and Wahlberg’s long locks, meant for Invincible, became a point of contention with Scorsese. Wahlberg refused to cut his hair, and according to him, things got heated. He jokingly remembers Scorsese saying, “‘You’ve got to cut your f–king hair,’ and I [said], ‘I don’t give a f–k.'”
Calmer Heads Prevail: Thankfully, despite the “hair-raising” situation (pun intended!), Wahlberg acknowledges the pressure Scorsese was under. He had a whole A-list cast to manage, and Wahlberg’s hair became just another detail on a very long to-do list.
From Feud to Flourishing Careers: In the end, Wahlberg understood Scorsese’s frustration, and they were able to resolve the issue. Fast forward to today, both Wahlberg (Killers of the Flower Moon) and Scorsese (Arthur) are at the top of their game, proving that even heated moments on set can’t derail successful careers. Who knew a haircut could cause so much drama? Hollywood, never a dull moment!
