Wendy Williams is breaking her silence since revealing her diagnosis of Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), expressing her heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love and support.
In a statement to the L.A. Times, she said, “Wow! Your response has been overwhelming,” highlighting the impact of the positive messages she’s received. “The messages shared with me have touched me, reminding me of the power of unity and the need for compassion.”
Wendy expressed her hope that her story might help others with FTD and acknowledged the support of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration. “I continue to need personal space and peace to thrive,” she emphasized, “Please just know that your positivity and encouragement are deeply appreciated.“
This statement comes amidst the upcoming Lifetime documentary, “Where Is Wendy Williams?”, which premieres tonight. Wendy served as an executive producer on the project, but a legal battle unfolded when a woman claiming to be her guardian attempted to block its airing.
The documentary reportedly sheds light on Wendy’s health journey, revealing that filming stopped in April 2023 due to her cognitive issues requiring treatment at a specialized facility. Her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., mentions doctors attributing the problems to alcohol use, according to People magazine.
Wendy’s family, who spoke to People, confirmed that her legal guardian currently has the most access to her. While they can’t directly call her, she can reach out when she chooses. Her sister, Wanda, shared, “She is, from what I understand, in a wellness, healing type of environment.”
Wendy’s story continues to spark conversations about dementia, its impact on individuals and families, and the importance of support and understanding. We wish Wendy strength and peace as she navigates this journey.
