In a recent interview on “The Dispatch Podcast,” New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman addressed the possibility of former Fox News figurehead Tucker Carlson joining Donald Trump on the Republican ticket in the 2024 election.
Haberman acknowledged that the possibility of a Trump-Carlson ticket is a “real thing” that she is hearing about from sources. She also discussed some of the potential challenges that such a partnership could face.
One concern, Haberman said, is that Carlson is a “star in his own right” and it is unclear how Trump would handle the dynamic of having someone else in the spotlight. She also noted that Trump’s current political team is “the best at least as a non-incumbent” and that there is “just a different level of control” with this group compared to Trump’s team in his first campaign.
Trump himself has also hinted at the possibility of choosing Carlson as his running mate. Earlier this month, he told the “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” that he is considering Carlson because he has “great common sense.”
Haberman also addressed other staffing questions that were posed by Weinstein, such as who Trump might tap for attorney general and treasury secretary. She said that Trump probably does not want Steve Bannon back in the White House.
Overall, Haberman’s comments suggest that there is a real possibility of Trump choosing Carlson as his running mate in 2024. However, there are also some potential challenges that such a partnership could face. The dynamic between Trump and Carlson, as well as the strength of Trump’s current political team, could all play a role in whether or not this ticket comes to fruition.
